The Year of Writing Romantically

My name is Emily…not Bronte though…and I have set a 2008 goal of getting a Harlequin manuscript accepted!

Just finished the Ally Blake title Millionaire to the Rescue. It was a cute, fun read. Anyone else read it?

Meanwhile, I have been chopping up a few magazines making an inspiration book. Photos of heroes and heroines. Jotting down great character names. Now, I really should just start writing…

First steps December 29, 2007

I made the decision on Friday that I was going to give writing a romance for Harlequin a genuine go in 2008. It is an idea and desire that has been with me for quite a while but has never gone any further than buying the Art of Romance by Emma Darcy about seven years ago

I bought three Harlequin titles yesterday in my first steps to getting a manuscript written in 2008. I am going to go nuts reading Harlequin novels over the next few months. I haven’t read one for a long time. I am halfway through the one called Millionaire to the Rescue by Ally Blake. It is a fun read and she has partially set it in the Mount Dandenong in Melbourne, which is only a 20-minute drive from where I live.

I like Ally’s writing style. It is witty, pacy and very readable.

Keeping this blog is intended to keep me accountable for setting this goal of writing a romance novel suitable for Harlequin. I love a challenge and I genuinely think it will be a great genre to channel my writing skills.
